Tell CensusThis About Your Adventures in Senseless Land

This is where American citizens are welcome to share their adventures in Senseless Land. It is helpful to know that you are not alone and to see how other American citizens are coping with the Census Bureau’s insanity. So feel free to post your experiences in the comments at the bottom of this page. There are a few guidelines though. Not following the guidelines will make this page unpleasant for everyone and will cause your post to be deleted.

Guidelines:

Please don’t advocate violence. I know we all have days when we feel like just blowing our tops but advocating violence on this website will get the post deleted.

Please do not use profanity. Posts with profanity in them will get deleted.

Please do not name anyone by name, not a census worker or supervisor or anyone.

Please do not post the phone numbers or addresses or email addresses of  anyone, including census workers.

Please make sure the story is true and that it’s your story, not your neighbor’s or your first cousin twice-removed. If they have an interesting story to tell about the census then send them a link so they can tell theirs.

Please try to limit the word count to around 250. I know that might be hard because of the craziness of the census bureau but please try. Two hundred-fifty words is a double spaced, 8.5″ X 11″ sheet of paper. Limiting the word count will make it easier for everyone to read the posts.

Please, no rants or diatribes just the facts and of course, your opinion. Otherwise I’ll have to spend time editing posts which will probably provoke me to close the comments.

And of course, please keep the posts on the topic of the census.

So, with all that out of the way, Resident Apt.1 and other American citizens are looking forward to hearing about your adventures in Senseless Land.

  1. I wonder what would happen if someone went to the police and turned themselves in for the crime of non-compliance (not filling out the form)? If you succeeded in getting arrested, it would present the Census with the unfortunate choice of either prosecuting someone (which they have never done to to the bad publicity that would result) or be exposed as refusing to enforce the laws they so stridently threaten us citizens with?
Perhaps I should clear my social calender and pay Deputy Fife a brief visit…

  2. Hello,

I wanted to ask: is there a hard and fast deadline whereby the door-to-door visits will stop? Say, July 1st? Or can the census folks show up at any time between now and the end of the year?

I ask because I’ve simply no desire to bandy words with those, um, people. To be clear: I don’t hate anyone, but neither will I let anyone waste my time as they seek to do. I’d like to think I need only keep it up for the next week, but if the in-person visits will drag on for longer, I’d like to know that, too.

(Perhaps a long vacation is in order?)

    • I haven’t heard that there is a cut off date but there has to be since the “data” has to be processed into reports, charts, tables and all that other busy work.
You live in America, you don’t have to answer your door or your phone (if you have caller ID). I simply stonewalled them by not answering the door. You have to ask yourself, “Who are these people who come knocking on my door asking me questions?”
You don’t have to talk to anyone that you don’t want to talk to. It’s like the drug prevention program, just say no. There is a psychological thing that happens when we are made to feel like we are doing something wrong even when we are not. Don’t respond with guilt or fear. Respond with incredulity that someone would think that you would answer those questions to a complete stranger who will take hardcopies of your answers out of your house and use it however they please. See, it’s ridiculous.

      • Hey ideas , I was fascinated by the insight , Does someone know where my business might be able to get ahold of a sample a form document to edit ?
